Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Nebret: Well, the funny thing is that chaos brings beauty. I was working in the education field for eight years but always wanted to get into tech. I could never find the time or overcome my fear of changing careers. Moreover, I wanted to prove to myself and every woman out there that we could break into a male-dominated industry. Also, that you can shift your career at any age, and it’s never too late to start. So, when the pandemic happened, it gave me the gift of time. Schools shut down, and I quickly realized this was the universe giving me the opportunity I always asked for. The pandemic was an eye-opener that life is short and to go for what you want. I used the time to study IT and dedicated 100% to the process, and at the end of the journey, I got my first tech role.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Nebret: Growing up as a first-generation American, I was always the problem-solver and communicator for my parents. I’m a late 80s baby, so technology and I grew up together. It’s always been a part of me. I always thought technology was interesting, but to be honest, outside looking in, it seems intimidating. I love to problem-solve and believe that everything could be solved through communication since I love to talk! I didn’t know exactly what I was wanted to do, but I always knew I loved to problem-solve, I loved communicating, and I loved operating in a fast-paced and ever-changing field. That’s when I knew technology was for me.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Nebret: I’ve been with Dataprise now for three months, but Dataprise feels like a family I was born into. Even though it has been such a short time, they make it feel like you’ve known them for years.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Nebret: I’m a Network Associate. Some of my day-to-day duties are supporting my client’s network infrastructure, providing application support, and supporting their ticket queue.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Nebret: Don’t let fear hold you back. There’s so much to learn and great opportunities in the technology field. As women, we need more voices and representatives in the field. There’s so much you can contribute with your great perspective to help mold our future. Technology is forever changing, so let’s be a part of the change and shape the future.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Nebret: The sky’s the limit when it comes to a career in the tech industry. Technology has so many doors within doors, and the possibilities are endless. I wish I would’ve known sooner that technology is not as intimidating as it seems and not let fear hold me back as long as it did.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Nebret: Honestly, the feedback I get when users hear a woman on the phone as their tech. People are so used to speaking with men to troubleshoot their technology needs. They don’t realize that women know, if not the same but more information when it comes to technology.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Nebret: The knowledge I gain every day and the support the company gives to each of its employees. Everyone has an open-door policy and is more than willing to help or teach you to become a better tech.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Nebret: My goal and where I see myself going is to be a Network Architect here at Dataprise. I’m fascinated with networking, and I’m working every day to expand my knowledge to reach my goal.

Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Danielle: About a decade ago, I started fresh out on college working a few different jobs in the Human Service field with individuals with physical, mental, and intellectual disabilities. From there I had the opportunity to build my skills in Project and Program Management. I even worked in tech pharm for a short period. My last job was a technology company which develop products for hospitals in the healthcare field. As you can, I went in several different routes until I found Dataprise. One common interest I’ve always had has been technology.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Danielle: Not quite. Although I started with an undergraduate degree in Psychology, I knew technology was definitely an important element to today’s society and that I wanted to be part of that growing innovation.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Danielle: About three months.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Danielle: I’m a Transition Manager for the Service Transition Team under Professional Services. Honestly, everyday is different from the day before so there’s no such thing as a “typical” day. Our team receives Job Opportunities for new and existing clients which we execute through onboarding and/or integrating of services to help improve their organization.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Danielle: As long as you have the interest and patience, it’s never too late to learn. You don’t know unless you try! I have a degree in Psychology and went in several different industries until I got into tech.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Danielle: I think we all have something unique to bring. A different perspective or take, no matter what our skills and experience bring.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Danielle: First, I would say is the people. I love being able to connect with everyone. Since I’ve interviewed until now, there’s such a welcoming atmosphere (even for being virtual!). Secondly, the difference we make for our clients and customers. It’s good to know that we’re helping companies protect and improve their organization.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Danielle: Since it’s only been three months, I’d like to continue to learn and grow within the role, team, and company. I hope my talent and skills will be utilize to the best of my abilities and help myself and DP grow.

The post Women in Technology: Meet Melissa appeared first on Dataprise.

]]>
Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Melissa: I was working for an international talent management firm and the role I was in was very compliance and employment law heavy. I was missing the fast-paced action of wearing multiple hats and really interacting with employees and staff so I decided it was time for a change. While I wasn’t strictly aiming for a position within the IT Industry, the position caught my eye. I felt learning a new industry would be a good challenge for myself and Dataprise’s culture and vision intrigued me.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Melissa: Not at all, I actually majored in Communications in college, but my career path has taken me in a couple of different directions upon which I’ve stumbled into HR. Working in technology now has been a learning experience and very inspiring.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Melissa: I have been with Dataprise just over two years.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Melissa: I’m a Human Resources Generalist, meaning I wear many hats and no two days are the same. In a nutshell, an HR Gen manages the day-to-day operations of the HR Department such as administration of policies, procedures, and programs. I have exposure to employee relations, training and development, benefits, compensation, and organizational development.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Melissa: Have a vision, but you don’t necessarily need to have a detailed plan. Life is long and careers are usually not linear so be open to things that may happen along the way.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Melissa: OWN YOUR CAREER! Nobody cares about it as much as you should. Once you’ve figured out what you want, go for it.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Melissa: It’s ok to take smart risks. The tech industry is all about innovation and development, and as a female in the tech industry I am encouraged to bring my ideas to the table. I’m able to have a voice and show that we, as women, can have the same recognition and respect as our male counterparts.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Melissa: Being an HR Generalist and a true business partner means I’m willing to take risks to improve the impact my team has on Dataprise employees and our organization as a whole! The relationships I have built with our employees during my time with Dataprise, and the culture of our company, motivates me each and every day.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Melissa:Dataprise has a great vision ahead, and I look forward to playing a part of executing some importation initiatives throughout the journey ahead.

The post Women in Technology: Meet Annie appeared first on Dataprise.

]]>
Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Annie: After a couple years working in public accounting as an auditor, I wanted to narrow the scope of my knowledge into one business where I would be excited about the work product! I wanted to focus this leg of my career on depth, not breadth. The amazing opportunity to pivot out of auditing and into FP&A at a tech company showed up, and I only became more excited after all my research and interviews with Dataprise.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Annie: It was definitely a field that I always wanted to work in, but I had no idea how to get my foot in the door. The tech industry is steady in its opportunities but rapidly growing out of demand and necessity – I am so glad that I landed here.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Annie: Just a little over three months.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Annie: I work in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A)– No two days look alike! I would say I have a monthly commitment to the company’s budget cycle, and I have a rotating list of ad hoc projects that I complete. All of this allows me to gain insight into the company’s general business functions and meet people from every department, and dive into more granular details regarding our services and customers.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Annie: I will say this – I had no IT background and no formal FP&A specific training before starting this job. I let it scare me for about 4 minutes and then I applied! Take the skills you have, combine them with a general direction of where you want to go, and get moving. There are open doors everywhere if you don’t close yourself in.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Annie: There are still many rooms in this industry where you will be the only woman. Raise your hand, voice your thoughts. Your insight is valuable! The right organization will recognize that you belong.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Annie: This isn’t tech specific, but throughout my career I’ve always been able to identify women to look up to. It’s wonderful to see women who are experts and confident professionals, it really gives me something to aspire to.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Annie: The people have been great! I feel a real sense of teamwork here, and that has helped a ton with getting up to speed with the job and getting to know the company.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Annie: At three months in, I’ve already seen so much personal growth in this job. I hope to learn more from my teachers/team here and continue to contribute from my corner as an analyst.

The post Women in Technology: Meet Elena appeared first on Dataprise.

]]>
Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Elena: I was a kid in the ‘90s, so I grew up alongside all of the technological advancements and innovations made in the past 30 years, from brick cell phones to iPod Nanos to pouring my adolescent heart out on my Xanga. As an adopter of phases of new technology during my lifetime, working in the technology field feels like an easy transition because I understand how important and relevant our services are to the modern end user.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Elena: I didn’t! I actually studied Psychology as an undergrad/grad student, but my career path has taken me in a couple of different, unexpected directions over the past eight years. Working in technology now is a welcome surprise.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Elena: Three months.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Elena: I am our Sales Enablement Manager, and my focus is on developing and providing the content, training, technology, and strategy that best enables our sales team to succeed and meet their goals. There really is no “typical” day in my role, but one consistent aspect is that there’s always activity with momentum toward developing, rolling out, analyzing, or completing an initiative.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Elena: Joining a male-dominated industry can be difficult and intimidating, but just remember that you have the technical skills and knowledge to make it. Your ideas are valid, and you have a unique perspective to offer; never settle for a place that doesn’t appreciate that.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Elena: Don’t be afraid to self-advocate and pursue what truly interests you. Overall, I wish I had been able to take my own advice and really go for the things I want and share my ideas with confidence — something I’m still working on but am getting better with every day with practice!

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Elena: Breaking stereotypes — the relationship between gender stereotypes and career choice is a huge interest of mine (I did a research project on it in college), and I love that women in technology can challenge the implicit notions many of us have regarding what women are capable of and what careers they are best suited to.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Elena: I appreciate that I’ve been given the space to think creatively when developing a strategy to address problems and challenges that the sales team may be facing. That creativity also lends itself to being able to slowly build the Sales Enablement function at Dataprise from the ground up, and I’m excited to see how it starts establishing its roots in the organization.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Elena: As I’m still new in the role, I’d love to continue settling into the position and really learn more about Dataprise and our solutions so that I’m best equipped to support our team.

Women in Technology: Meet Mary Beth https://www.dataprise.com/resources/blog/women-in-tech-mary-beth/ Thu, 27 May 2021 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.dataprise.com/resources/blog/women-in-tech-mary-beth/ This month's Women in Technology story features Mary Beth Hamilton, Vice President of Marketing at Dataprise.

The post Women in Technology: Meet Mary Beth appeared first on Dataprise.

]]>
Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Mary Beth: I came out of college just before the Dotcom Bubble burst. The job market was hot and the Boston public relations agency I joined was flush with technology clients looking to spend more to beat the competition. The hours were long, the pace was fast, the learning experience was incredible, and I loved it. After seven years in B2B Tech PR, I made the jump to marketing for a growing technology solution provider and marketing within the tech space is where I’ve stayed.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Mary Beth: Not really. I landed in B2B technology by chance, and once I had a taste I was hooked. The beauty of this industry is that the only constant is change — it is always evolving and growing which means new challenges and opportunities.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Mary Beth: I’m a newer ‘Priser – I joined Dataprise in March 2021!

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Mary Beth: Dataprise is in growth mode, building on its incredible 25-year history, which means marketing and sales have an enormous opportunity to make an impact and drive growth. While no two days are the same, every day is a blend of building winning marketing strategies, driving demand generation, deepening customer engagement, elevating brand awareness and collaborating with my amazing team.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Mary Beth: This advice is really for any woman and especially those early in their careers:

 • Always negotiate.
 • Don’t underestimate your value or let others do so.
 • Advocate for yourself – don’t assume someone else will do it for you.
 • Find people you can trust – mentors are amazing.
 • Have open conversations with your manager about your professional goals and set a measurable plan on how to achieve them. You won’t always get what you want but you will be in control of your career.
 • Always say something in a meeting and get a seat (literally) at the table – you are there for a reason so find your moment to add value and commentary. Don’t stand next to the wall, in the back of the room, or get everyone coffee.
 • Don’t fall into the trap of being the automatic notetaker just because you are female, junior or “nice.”
 • Raise your hand for responsibility and be strategic about what you pick.
 • Have a voice, know your stuff and always be overprepared.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Mary Beth: That we can open doors, move roadblocks, and have honest conversations that make it easier for younger generations to climb the corporate ladder. Having young boys and girls see more females in leadership positions, regardless of industry, matters immensely.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Mary Beth: The people, our vision, and our values. The people at Dataprise are amazing, our vision for the future is clear and the company truly lives its values. This monthly ‘Women in Tech’ feature is just one small example of Dataprise’s commitment to, and appreciation of, diversity.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Mary Beth: My work has only just begun – I’m not going anywhere until we fully execute on Dataprise’s vision for the future!

Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Bethany: About two years ago I applied with Dataprise and was offered a job within the Human Resources department. Unfortunately, I had already accepted another position and couldn’t come onboard at the time. I knew I was I intrigued by the work Dataprise did in the IT space and that at some point I was determined to come back and work for this company when the timing was right. Technology has always interested me.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Bethany: I have always enjoyed technology, but I never thought I would actually work with it so keenly. Growing up my dad always worked with computers. I could type before I could write. My dad would give my sisters and I computers in pieces and have us put them back together on his office floor. It was always encouraged to at least understand the basics of how everything worked.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Bethany: Just about three months.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Bethany: As an Account Manager at Dataprise, I have a book of business which is filled with current Dataprise customers. My role is to be the main Point of Contact (POC) for all of my customers and aid in both developing their technological environment and resolving any issues they may have. A typical day is very customer service heavy with a wide range of meetings, phone calls, researching, emails, and administrative work involved.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Bethany: Technology is fascinating, and it is always growing and changing. You will never get bored and there will always be plenty of job opportunities. Don’t be afraid to try something new.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Bethany: I think before starting in an Account Management role within the tech industry, you should ask to shadow someone, to ensure you have a good understanding of what a normal day looks like. It is a fast-paced environment which requires a strong commitment to learning and a lot of passion and energy in order to succeed. Also, I wish I had become ITIL 4 certified prior to working in this industry, as it has proved to be incredibly helpful.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Bethany: The best part of being a woman in the tech industry is being able to take what I have learned and explain it to my non-technical female friends and seeing that lightbulb go off in their head.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Bethany: I enjoy the encouragement to dive in deep within technology. No one ever tries to hold back any type of knowledge. My brain is always incredibly active and continuously learning. I love the fast-paced environment.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Bethany: My short-term goal is to manage a team of Account Managers. I like to teach, train, problem solve, and help individuals grow. From there it would be to develop my skills and expand my knowledge into other roles within Dataprise. My long-term goal is to open an HR consulting firm where I am hired by companies to help construct their policies and procedures. Ideally, it would be technology based and my hope would be to partner with Dataprise and have my clients utilize Dataprise as their MSP!

Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Tina: I came into the field unintentionally. After graduating high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do as a career. The women in my family had joined the medical field and became nurses so it seemed that was the obvious path for me. However, after changing majors a couple of times, I decided to take electives and came across an introductory computer class. I loved the class and found it fun and challenging at the same time. I investigated further and realized that I could make a career out of it!

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Tina: When I was young, I loved taking things apart before putting them back together. I simply liked to figure out how things worked. I was also the go-to person in my family to fix anything mechanical. So, in that sense, I guess it’s not surprising that I’m now working in technology.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

Tina: I have only been with Dataprise for a few weeks. While I’m still getting acclimated, I’m learning and re-learning new things every day. I enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with incredibly supportive team members. Unfortunately, because of Covid, I have not met most of my team members in person, however, my manager, the service desk and my co-workers have been nothing but helpful, knowledgeable, and welcoming.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Tina: I’m a Network Consultant for the Northeast Region. There’s never a typical or dull day. One day I am racking and installing sensors that monitor logs on a firewall with the help of the Cybersecurity team, another day I am configuring virtual servers or configuring a Wi-Fi network, or I might be troubleshooting PC’s and installing application software. Every day is a different challenge. Keeping networks functioning during a pandemic brings pressure as more companies are relying heavily on technology. I’m happy that I can have a career that helps keep people connected and productive. While it is high pressure, it is also fun doing what you love.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Tina: Do not be intimidated by the male domination in the field, especially in the server and network administration area of technology. Often during my schooling and career I was always the only female in the group. I got used to it. No one knows everything, so never feel intimidated by what you don’t know. Technology changes constantly and there is a lot to learn, and you cannot learn everything. Just focus on your strengths and what you can bring to the table.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Tina: I try to recruit women into technology any chance I get. Yes, it is a “boy’s club” but do not let that be a hindrance. Also, do not fear technology. When I started as a Technician, I was in awe of Senior Network Engineers and never thought I could do what they do. I would attach myself to the smartest people, pick their brain and learn all that I could. I would volunteer to be included in the toughest projects. I wanted to swap out core switches and integrate or migrate to major systems. Fear will cripple you; be fearless and accept the challenge.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Tina: The best part about being a woman in the tech industry is to hopefully be an inspiration to other little girls and young women that do not necessarily grow up wishing to be a Tech or an Engineer.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Tina: Dataprise is very innovative with technology. We’ve embraced cloud computing, cybersecurity, virtualization, and automation. We’re in a new age with technology and encourage our clients to do the same. Since I have been at Dataprise, we have not backed away from large and impactful projects. It’s exciting to be a part of a company that is growing with the times. Also, Dataprise acknowledges, encourages and fosters learning and growing your skillset. Having access to education worth thousands of dollars is priceless. I feel motivated to keep learning and growing.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Tina: The sky is the limit! The wonderful thing about technology is we don’t know where it’s going to take us. For now, I am happy with the trajectory I’m on and I look forward to a long and developing future with Dataprise.
