Lasorda and the Dodgers

Tommy Lasorda, for years the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, once said this in response to a reporter's praise: "The fact of the matter is this-the team could show up on the field without me, play the game, and win. But if I showed up without them, I'd lose. I need the players much more than they need me." (Back to the Heart of Youth Work, by Dewey H. Bertolini, p. 114) God has called us pastors and teachers to a position more like managers or coaches than the players. Our responsibility is to equip you for the work of the ministry, not do all the ministry ourselves. ? Copyright 2002 Steve Miller - All Rights Reserved
