Women in Technology: Meet Dara

Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Dara: My husband has been in IT since we met, and although we’re in different professional roles, he introduced me to working in the technology industry.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Dara: No, I didn’t see myself in IT nor did I see myself in the line of work I am in. However, I am so thankful for the path my career has taken. I genuinely love my job and the work that I do, and I love being in the technology industry due to the continuous opportunity to learn and grow.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise? 

Dara: Seven years. 

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

Dara: I’m Corporate Counsel for Dataprise, so I am responsible for all legal functions of the company including compliance, contracts, legal drafting, risk management, complex transactions, employment law, as well as managing outside counsel. A large part of my typical daily work involves contracts, including everything from drafting, reviewing, editing, and negotiation.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you would give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Dara: Stay informed and stay current, – IT is a rapidly evolving industry and it’s imperative you continue to educate yourself.

Marissa: What advice would you give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Dara: Find a profession that you can be both successful in and passionate about. If the job you want doesn’t exist, create it!

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Dara: This industry is broad, relevant, and full of opportunities. There’s something for everyone. Women in tech have the ability to accomplish anything!

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Dara: I was the first in-house lawyer at Dataprise and built the legal department from scratch. I know the legal functions of Dataprise inside and out and am incredibly proud of where the legal department is at today. This sense of ownership and personal investment in the company is a very motivating aspect of my job. Additionally, since my role spans across all departments, I work with many different people at the company, who are all incredible.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Dara: Dataprise’s best days are ahead, and I look forward to being an integral part of its success moving forward.
