Marissa: Tell us your story about how you got into the IT field.Sara: I first got into technology by looking for a company with a great culture. Technology was one of the industries I was looking at when switching careers, and I got lucky that Dataprise chose me.
Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?Sara: Not exactly. I always wanted to work in customer service (my bread and butter). Technology is an industry that is constantly changing and evolving, and choosing the technology industry was a great decision. I’m so happy I did.
Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do at Dataprise and what a typical day for you is like?Sara: I’m an Account Manager at Dataprise. It’s my job to ensure my clients are happy and help them understand how technology can improve their business. I keep them updated with new and improved solutions to help them focus on their day to day, while we worry about their IT needs.
Marissa: What is one piece of advice you’d give to young women looking to get into the technology field?Sara: Go for it! It’s easy to be intimidated in the technology industry – the male to female ratio isn’t exactly equal (yet)! However, the amount of diversity you can bring to your clients and the company you work for is something that is not only beneficial for your company but also for yourself. Work hard, be kind, and show them how it’s done.
Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the technology industry?Sara: There are so many great parts about being a woman in the tech industry, but the best part is I get to bring a different mindset and attitude to the table. Being a woman in a predominantly male field is a benefit – not a hindrance – to your success.
Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?Sara: My team. We lean on each other, ask for advice, share our trials/tribulations, and learn from each other without judgement or assumptions.
Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?Sara: Honestly, who knows! I see myself always being in some form of customer service position. I am happiest when helping others.
