Dataprise Women in Technology: Meet Yasmin

Marissa: Tell us your story on how you got into technology?

Yasmin: I have always considered myself to be a tech savvy person, especially in the wireless arena. I spent the majority of my career working for Verizon, but was looking for something more IT focused and came across Dataprise. It was at Dataprise that I was able to expand my knowledge on technology and processes to further explore my interest in the ever-changing world of IT.

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Believe it or not, no! IT was something that just happened for me. While I have always been fascinated with gadgets and the technology that powers the world, I never saw myself in this field. My ability to readily adapt to an ever-changing environment combined with my ability to learn technologies quickly, aided in nurturing/fueling my interest in IT.

Marissa: How long have you been with Dataprise?

I have been with Dataprise for four years! Time has really flown.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

A typical day for me varies; each day for the most part differs from the day before. As an Account Manager, I work with both new and existing Dataprise customers. We provide telecom consulting, meaning we design and build end-to-end solutions to aid clients in evaluating voice and data options for their businesses. In addition, I support day-to-day carrier-related tasks, such as responding to billing inquiries, trouble tickets, and any requested account changes.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you’d give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

The sky is the limit. Never be afraid to do something that is out of the norm! While technology tends to be a male-dominated field, women bring a certain panache to the table. As long as you have the desire, you should pursue it. Do not be afraid to explore; technology has an abundance of fields you can master. Focus on educating yourself as much as possible so you will always be one step ahead!

Marissa: What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Honestly, I wish I had known how easy it was to get started! I would have gone into it much sooner and taken advantage of the education opportunities that were readily available!

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

We are the minority, which provides us with a ton of advantages. While standing out is not always easy and we certainly face our fair share of challenges, our ability to focus outward and not inward helps us leverage relationships and bring different a perspective to the table.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

The people! Honestly, I am grateful to work with such a talented team of business professionals.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Continuing to perfect my craft. I will continue to focus on educating myself and taking advantage of the opportunities afforded to me. I want to add as much value as I can, not just for myself but for the company I represent as well.
